What We've Been Learning

We would first like to mention that this blog will replace a monthly news letter. If you have requested to receive a paper copy of the news letter, we ask you to check the blog weekly. If you have given your email address to receive the news letter, just a reminder to enter your email address on the side where it says "Follow By Email". This will make it easy for you to receive updates when we add a new post! Thank you.

This is just an overall update with what we have been doing in the class thus far. We will try to post more frequently and more specific now that we have this blog up and rolling.

ELA - We have been using Daily 5 to teach students about reading and writing skills. We have looked at complete sentences with proper punctuation and capitals, questioning words, predicting, retelling (B.M.E.), text to self, and favourite part.

Social - We began the year with "All About Me" and have now moved into talking about communities. We will be looking at many different communities starting small with family, then school, area, city, province, etc.

PAWS - (Panthers At Work Stations) This incorporates group skills, centres and inquiry learning. In our first PAWS theme, students have been learning about the five senses in eight rotations. Next we will be doing a Thanks Giving theme.

Phys. Ed - We have been learning about personal and general space in a variety of activities.

Math - We have finished our first unit of Patterns and are now moving into Numbers to 100. We are currently working with a number line practicing counting by 2's, 5's and 10's.

Health - We have been talking about feelings. We read the book Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day by Jamie Lee Curtis and will be doing some more activities around moods and feelings next week.

Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Stusek and Miss Mailhot
